The first human clinical trial was conducted with a group of morbidly obese people. They were placed in a "phase 1 unit", which is a place much like a prison.
The only things the volunteers could do all day was watch television, read the papers and eat!
Half the volunteers were given Hoodia, the other half were given a placebo. When the fifteen day trial ended, the Hoodia group had reduced their intake by a whopping 1000 calories a day.
